Terms of Use
The short version
- Compressing single photos is free. Compressor Pro is optional and bought through Apple.
- Subscriptions renew automatically until you cancel in your Apple Account settings.
- Refunds are handled by Apple.
- Keep your originals until you are happy with the result. Compression cannot be undone.
These terms are an agreement between you and The Black Hole Company ("we", "us") for the use of the Compressor app ("Image Video PDF Compressor") and this website (together, "Compressor"). By downloading or using Compressor you agree to them. If you do not agree, please do not use Compressor.
1. Apple's standard terms
Compressor is licensed to you through Apple's App Store under Apple's Licensed Application End User License Agreement (the "Standard EULA"). These terms add to the Standard EULA. If the two ever conflict, the Standard EULA wins on the points it covers. Apple is not responsible for Compressor or its content, and is not a party to these terms, but Apple and its subsidiaries may enforce the Standard EULA as third party beneficiaries.
2. Your license
We give you a personal, non exclusive, non transferable, revocable license to download and use Compressor on Apple devices you own or control. You may not copy, modify, sell, rent or redistribute the app, reverse engineer it except where the law allows, or use it to build a competing product.
3. Your files
- Your photos, videos and PDFs remain yours. They are processed on your device and we never receive them.
- Compression reduces file size by removing data, and the result cannot be turned back into the original. Compressor saves a new copy and only deletes an original if you turn that on and iOS confirms it with you. Please keep originals you may need.
- Only compress files you have the right to use.
4. Compressor Pro
Compressor Pro unlocks the features listed on its screen in the app at the time you buy it, such as batch compression, unlimited videos and PDFs, size limits, custom dimensions and your full history. It is offered as an auto-renewing subscription (for example weekly or yearly) or as a one-time purchase.
- Payment is charged to your Apple Account when you confirm the purchase.
- A subscription renews automatically at the same price and length unless you turn off auto-renew at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. Your account is charged for renewal within the 24 hours before the period ends.
- You can manage or cancel a subscription in the iOS Settings app under your name → Subscriptions. Cancelling stops the next renewal; Pro stays on until the end of the period you paid for.
- If a free trial is offered, any unused part of it ends when you buy a subscription. If you do not cancel before the trial ends, the subscription starts and you are charged.
- A one-time purchase does not renew and stays unlocked for as long as the app works on your device.
- Restore your purchase on your other devices with the same Apple Account using "Restore Purchases" in the app.
5. Prices and refunds
- All purchases are processed by Apple. Apple's terms, prices, taxes and payment methods apply.
- Prices are shown in the app before you buy and may vary by country. We may change prices for future purchases.
- Refund requests are handled by Apple at reportaproblem.apple.com. We cannot issue refunds ourselves.
- If something you paid for did not unlock, first try "Restore Purchases", then write to us at hello@theblackholecompany.com and we will help.
- Nothing in these terms takes away rights you have under consumer law where you live, including any right of withdrawal or refund that the law gives you.
6. Our content
Compressor, including its design, artwork, text, name and icon, belongs to The Black Hole Company or its licensors and is protected by copyright and trademark law. If you send us ideas or feedback, you let us use them to improve Compressor without owing you anything. Thank you.
7. Ending these terms
You can stop using Compressor at any time by deleting it. We may suspend or end your license if you seriously or repeatedly break these terms. Sections 3, 6, 8, 9 and 10 continue to apply after that.
8. No warranty
We work hard to make Compressor reliable, but it is provided "as is" and "as available". To the extent the law allows, we do not promise that it will be free of errors, that every file will reach a particular size, or that it will always be available. Some places do not allow these exclusions, so they may not apply to you.
9. Limit on liability
To the extent the law allows, The Black Hole Company is not liable for indirect, incidental, special or consequential damages, or for lost data or lost profits, arising from your use of Compressor. Our total liability for any claim is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim. Nothing here limits liability that cannot be limited by law, such as for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud.
10. Disputes
If you have a problem, please write to us first at hello@theblackholecompany.com. Most issues can be sorted out quickly. If we cannot resolve it, you may bring a claim in the courts where you live, and the consumer protection laws of your country continue to apply to you.
11. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. We will change the date at the top, and if a change is significant we will tell you in the app. Continuing to use Compressor after a change means you accept the new terms.
